A New Season

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven

~ Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

We serve a God of seasons.  Our time on earth is filled with life events that bring about new seasons – a new job, marriage, kids leaving home...kids returning home. But whatever season you are in, you must pay attention because God has a plan for you during this time.

1 Kings we learn new seasons brings three certain things: change, challenges and champions. King David’s son, Solomon, had just been given the throne of Israel – a huge change! Solomon was somewhat uncertain, especially having to fill the shoes of his father: the lion-slayer, the giant-killer, a man after God’s own heart. And just like Solomon, we can have a love/hate relationship with change because of uncertainty. “Will I be good enough?” “Will this work out?” “What if...?”

However, we cannot please God unless we’re willing to trust Him through uncertainly. We must walk by faith and not by sight (2 Cor 5:7).  Change is good. Change grows us, stretches us, deepens our walk with the Lord.

A new season also brings challenges. And we approach these challenges determines our ability to see them through. King Solomon knew the task before him of ruling God’s people was daunting. So when God told Solomon He would provide anything asked of Him, Solomon requested wisdom. Wisdom is the result of living a life of listening when you would have rather been talking. It’s the application of knowledge. And if you ask God, He will give it you liberally! (James 1:5)

Accepting the changes of a new season and seeking wisdom exposes champions. Because Solomon sought wisdom from the Lord in his new season, God raised him up to be a king like no other. But so many Christians are not being used by God because they won’t trust Him! You must “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path” (Proverbs 3:5-6). We are not to put our faith in any man, system or President. Our focus and focus must be on Jesus Christ and His unchanging Word.

Let’s walk by faith and not by sight, let’s us rely on God. Let’s us continue to trust in every season.
